Abstract
The most common malignant change in cystic teratoma is squamous cell carcinoma, followed by carcinoid tumor and adenocarcinoma. Ovarian carcinoid tumor can be seen in the ovary as a metastasis of a tumor located in the gastrointestinal tract or elsewhere, as a component of adult cystic teratoma, or as a primary pure neoplasm of the ovary. The prognosis in primary carcinoid tumors (whether pure or as a component of cystic teratoma) is very good, whereas metastatic carcinoids have a poor outcome. We report a case of a primary carcinoid tumor arising in a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary that developed in a 38-year-old woman with a brief review of literature.
